The story of coffee

New coffee plants are started from cuttings of mature coffee bushes

The fruit of the coffee bush looks similar in size and colour to a green olive

When the fruit turns red, it is ripe for harvesting. The coffee bean is the seed of the fruit

The firm red fruits are washed and soaked until they become soft and pulpy

The washed fruit is hulled by passing through conveyor belts and rollers

This process separates the red pulpy fruit from the internal white coffee beans

The separated white coffee beans are turned regularly and spread out in the open to dry
